Kitchen Cabinet Organizers for Cooks

Kitchen cabinet organizers come in all shapes and sizes and perform a host of duties that make (or should make) your life in the kitchen more efficient and organized.

Picture yourself at your cooktop, ready to unleash your culinary creativity. Do you have everything you need right there at your fingertips (or pretty darn close)? If your kitchen is like mine, you don't and you have to make several trips to this cabinet and that pantry to get all the tools and ingredients you need. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Cabinet Organizers Command Central

Okay, so the paragraph heading sounds a bit hyped...but there is some truth to it. Armstrong Cabinets makes a cabinet and drawer organizer system designed with cooks in mind, putting plenty of cabinet organizer tools in one central location. The call it the ChefCenter™.

ChefCenter™ is a group of kitchen cabinet organizers in the form of drawers and pullouts positioned in a central location that afford quick and easy access to the items you use most. An appropriate location is the cabinetry surrounding a rangetop. In this scenario the drawers sit below the cooktop in the base cabinet with pullouts flanking either side.

Picture yourself again by your cooktop except this time you have everything you need basically within arm's reach. Pots and pans are stored in the large base cabinet drawers in front of you while utensils, spices and other often-used cooking ingredients are stored in the sliding pullout racks on either side.

Functional Cabinet Accessories

The concept behind Armstrong's ChefCenter kitchen cabinet accessories is really simple functionality and efficiency. There are no whiz-bang gadgets, just the use of well-placed drawers and convenient slideouts that offer space for the cooking items you use most.

Cabinet drawers are often thought of as being limited to things like eating utensils and other small items, with larger pots and pans relegated to the larger base cabinets.

However the use of larger drawers in a base cabinet provides greater convenience for locating larger items as well as ease of access. Kitchen cabinet organizers that bring their contents to you make using the kitchen more efficient and less tiring. No more crouching and searching for pans in the back of a dark base cabinet. ChefCenter's large drawers pull out and present you with everything you have stored in them.

The tall and narrow slideout organizers come with several shelves and chrome side rails. Or if you prefer, they can be ordered with perforated stainless steel pegboard for hanging items such as cooking utensils. You can also mix and match, getting some slideouts with shelves and others with pegboard.

ChefCenter is available in two packages. The "Family Chef" package includes two larger base cabinet drawers and two cabinet-height slideout shelves. The "Epicure" line offers the same as the Family Chef except with the addition of two wall cabinet slideouts located above the countertops.

Publisher's Comments - What I Like and Dislike

What I like most about Armstrong's ChefCenter are it's centralized features and the use of the large drawers. Before we remodeled I had lots of experience with a cooktop that was situated on top of a traditional (two-door) base cabinet where we stored our pots and pans.

I can't count the number of times I had to get on my hands and knees to hunt for the right pot, hidden in some deep recess in the back of the cabinet. To be able to simply slide open a large drawer that houses our frying pans and other cooking items would be a godsend.

That all changed with our new cabinets, as we ended up going with an arrangement very similar to the ChefCenter, with 3 drawers right below the cooktop. Those drawers are sweet, and it's where we keep our pots and pans. Just slide them out, grab a pot and put in on the stove. Couldn't be easier.

The centralized setup of the ChefCenter's slideouts and drawers appeals to me too because it cuts down on having to traipse here and there across the kitchen to get what's needed. Being someone who also likes to work with my hands in places other than the kitchen, I can tell you that my basement workbench is set up to be similar to the ChefCenter concept. My most often used tools are within close reach. It might not sound like much, but having everything you need close by does cut down on fatigue.

The only feature that I don't think I'd find that useful is the perforated pegboard option. In my opinion the slideout shelves offer more useful space.

The wall mounted slideout drawers in the Epicure package might also pose some problems with the height-challenged among us. The top-most shelves on these pullouts may be a little hard to get to without a step stool, depending on your reach.

Everything considered however, I have to say that the concept behind the ChefCenter cabinet organizers makes practical sense. If you're in the market for new cabinets and kitchen cabinet organizers are included on your wish list, you may find the ChefCenter to be a simple yet elegant solution, particularly for the cook in the family.

Or just take some design inspiration from the ChefCenter, as we did, to suit your new cabinet storage needs.

Any type of cabinet storage organizer should make your kitchen more useful and less work to operate in. But they're not all the same and you don't necessarily need them in every drawer and cabinet box (something that could get expensive quickly). You can find out what kind of kitchen cabinet organizer might work for you by looking at this article on cabinet organizers. There you'll find information about the different types of cabinet organizers that are available as well as considerations when making choices on which organizational features might work best.
